Reducing dependence on electricity import is crucial for the country\u2019s economic development. While among renewable energy sources, the production of electricity using hydro resources is considered as a priority.<br \/>\nHydro resources take the first place among the natural riches of Georgia. There are 26 thousand rivers on the territory of Georgia, with total length of 60 thousand kilometers. The energy potential of about 300 rivers is estimated at 15,000 MW. Georgian rivers are typically characterized by distinct seasonality. They can be distributed only by building hydro power stations with regulating water reservoir.<br \/>\nDespite the existing hydropower potential in Georgia, today, especially in winter time , during the low-water flow period we have to import electricity from neighboring countries. Hence, the restoration of existing hydropower plants and the construction of new ones are crucial to achieving energy independence in our country. The benefits of the construction of hydropower plants are also the increase of employment in the regions, which contributes to the welfare of the population and the socio-economic development of the region.<br \/>\nEnergy independence is a key priority of Georgia&#8217;s energy policy, to achieve which it is necessary maximum utilization of the abundant Georgian hydro-resources.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row row_btt_skin=&#8221;light&#8221;
